A 30-year-old woman is facing trafficking and weapons charges following a security check at a Pelican Narrows home on Saturday. Officers with the Pelican Narrows RCMP detachment were conducting evening patrols “to check for compliance” with emergency safety measures issued by the leadership of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, which governs the community located about 500 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon. “During the patrol, police officers performed a check at a residence on Linklater Street and were granted permission to enter the residence,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. Inside, police found prohibited firearms, ammunition and a bag of white powder. Officers arrested 30-year-old Kerry McCallum at the scene before obtaining a search warrant to continue searching the residence, the RCMP said. In total, police seized: - One sawed-off shotgun
- Several imitation firearms
- Various types of ammunition
- Various bladed weapons, including machetes, a tactical axe and knives
- 664 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- 30 cellphones
- A large sum of cash
- Additional drug paraphernalia
McCallum faces a slew of weapons charges, and several charges for drug trafficking-related offences. She appeared in court via CCTV on Monday. Pelican Narrows has been under strict security controls since May 21, implemented in the wake of a series of violent incidents. Things began escalating in early May, after two males on ATVs opened fire at a group of people, seriously injuring two men. On May 13, the remains of 16-year-old Jay’siiah Webb-Long were uncovered near the community, and identified following an autopsy two days later. Webb-Long had been reported missing in Brampton, Ontario in 2025. Then, in the early hours of May 21, RCMP were called to a Pelican Narrows home where they found Jaden Custer mortally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later traced the suspect to Edmonton, where they arrested 31-year-old Brett McCallum. He faces a second-degree murder charge in Custer’s death. The community was again gripped by an active shooter incident on June 1 where one woman was killed and a man was seriously injured. According to a May 21 statement from PBCN, the security measures include a series of checkpoints staffed by external security forces, a ban on the use of ATVs, quads, and other off-road vehicles, a fireworks ban, and restrictions on indoor private social events, including weddings, graduation parties, birthdays and other special occasions. Local stores and gas stations are prohibited from selling gas for use in ATVs and off-road vehicles.
