An RCMP officer has been charged with breach of trust following an investigation by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). On April 3, 2024, Saskatchewan RCMP notified SIRT of a serious injury after a call for service that day at a rural address near Lloydminster, according to SIRT report. Around 7:14 a.m. Maidstone RCMP received a call from someone requesting a wellness check on a 68-year-old relative after being told he was dead, SIRT’s investigation said. The man’s relative contacted RCMP again at 4:30 p.m. to request an update on the wellness check. The RCMP officer who was originally dispatched departed the Maidstone detachment at 4:39 p.m. RCMP received another call from a different relative around 5:10 p.m., the report said. The relative had gone to the residence and reported the man was seriously injured but alive. Shortly after that call, RCMP arrived at the home and located the 68-year-old man. EMS took the man to hospital, where he later died. During SIRT’s investigation, one RCMP member was designated as a subject officer, with five members designated as witness officers. Six civilian witnesses were also interviewed. SIRT determined there were reasonable grounds to believe an offence was committed by the subject officer. On Nov. 13, 2025, he was charged with breach of trust by a public officer. He is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Dec. 11. As the matter is before the courts, SIRT said it cannot provide additional information.
