Travellers looking for more domestic flight options out of Saskatchewan are in luck – as WestJet will be offering direct flights to the Maritimes this summer. As part of a major expansion to its domestic network, WestJet will now offer non-stop service between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and several other centres – including Regina and Saskatoon. Flights from Saskatoon and Regina to Halifax will be offered once weekly, while Winnipeg will receive two per week. Service between Vancouver and Halifax will also return for four flights weekly. “Introducing this new non-stop summer flight from Regina to Halifax is a significant milestone and will enhance travel options for the people of Southern Saskatchewan,” Regina Airport Authority President and CEO James Bogusz said in the announcement. “We are thrilled to welcome the addition of Halifax to our route network—further connecting our city and province to Canada and the world, said Stephen Maybury, Saskatoon Airport Authority President and CEO. According to WestJet, the expansions to Halifax and St. John’s were done strategically to increase access to direct flights to Europe to locales such as Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh and London. The new route to Saskatoon will begin June 28, while Regina’s service will begin June 29.
